logo-english-area-2The Language Area welcomes both parents and students. We are eager to collaborate in the learning process of your children, knowing that they are the main actors of the same.

Likewise, the institution has chosen to divide the students by levels. The result of the diagnostic examination carried out during the first week has been considered, as well as the opinion of the teachers who were in charge the previous year to achieve an organization that allows to maximize the academic performance of each student, achieving the proposed goals successfully.

We understand that it is our responsibility to share our knowledge with students motivating them to overcome themselves day by day using strategies, methods and ICTs in a correct way as well as inducing them to personal research.

It is our goal that when graduating from the secondary level our students obtain international certifications. We aim for this certification to be the highest of those currently offered. To achieve this, students are receiving the respective training and coaching provided by suitable teachers with the necessary tools such as: preparing, empowering and familiarizing the students with the skills, knowledge and formats in order to take the test that will accredit them to obtain an English proficiency international certification as a requirement to access to study abroad.

The methodology to be followed will be worked on the following skills: auditory discrimination, reading practice, conversation and writing exercises, plus classes, workshops, tasks, diagnostics, assessments, 2 tests per year (pre-test training, as required) as well as conversation and discussion groups.

Additionally, the student will work with the material prepared by the Language Area and the classes will be reinforced with the use of videos, use of multimedia, resources on the Web, online practices and in the computer lab.

All these activities, together with the great support of parents, will enable our students to successfully access international accreditation and certification of English proficiency.

The elementary and middle section of the High School “San Gerardo” teaches under the principles of Montessori methodology that is characterized by providing a prepared environment: ordered, aesthetic, simple, real, where each element has its reason to be in the development of the children, also allows them to discover and learn through his five senses, making this knowledge meaningful and functional.

The teaching materials are designed so that the child can recognize the error by itself and take responsibility for the own learning, using didactic strategies and the Montessori method:

  • Integrated field observations.
  • Pioneers in ecological campaigns
  • Teachers in training
  • Montessori pearls for the sum.
  • Multiplication Montessori Circle
  • Corners of work.
  • Self-Assessment Worksheets:
    – Comprehensive reading.
    – Logic reasoning.
    – Verbal reasoning.

For learning to be meaningful we have:

  • Mathematics Laboratory.
  • Science Laboratory
  • Lab in Lexical Awareness

Another important pillar in our methodological proposal is the work with the arts such as theater, music, drawing, painting, dancing, which makes students to be people with a sensitivity that allows them to raise their spirit, as well as to know their self Internal, out of dogmas and with a broad criterion.

The area of Initial and Pre-school Education of the Private School “San Gerardo” provides an integral training, which covers socio-affective, cognitive, expressive and motor aspects. It is based on the Montessori methodology that promotes natural and spontaneous learning through playful education and sensory stimulation, in a warm, respectful, protected and reliable environment.

Its orderly, aesthetic environments, equipped with psycho-pedagogical material suitable for each age group, provide a stimulating environment that allows the child to construct “natural” notions and cognitive structures that will serve as a basis for future school requirements in areas of: Literacy, verbal, numerical reasoning, psychomotor development and other cognitive and motor skills that should be further developed through schooling.

In the program of learning stimulation is of primary importance the development of:

Free Play: It develops under principles of active play pedagogy, provides freedom for play, provides working corners that allow:

– That the child work with concrete material and manipulation, necessary for the development of thought in these ages.
– Stimulate the development of areas of attention, concentration and problem solving.
– Increase creativity.
– Favor the development of the SOCIO-AFFECTIVE area allowing the child to improve in the control of their emotions.
– To know the inner world.

Formal Days: In which they are developed:
Projects, workshops, visits, green classes, experiments and other didactic strategies that allow us to promote meaningful learning experiences.
  • Psychomotricity

Early detection of delays in the psychomotor development of the child and its repercussion in the rest of global activities, maintaining the integrality of the psychomotor abilities of the subject in the interrelation with the environment that surrounds him.

  • Physical Education

Propending the practice of Physical Culture, recognizing and valuing its corporal scheme as a means of communicating ideas and feelings through movement and body expressions.

  • Computing

To get students to acquire knowledge and begin in the development of digital skills, with projections within the ICT in a friendly and playful way.

  • English

Motivate and bring the child closer to learning the English language, developing speaking and listening skills with a communicative and playful approach through songs, games, works and projects as a vehicle of learning.

  • Phonological Awareness

To develop in the child the ability to analyze the components of speech, avoiding that due to the lack of stimulation, maturity or specific difficulties, present a delay in the acquisition of reading skills.

  • Arts

Our stimulation program also includes work with the arts such as music, dance and body language, which makes children from an early age develop sensitivity to art. This educational project has been serving children and young people in Loja for 19 years, becoming the pioneer center in offering this educational service and in managing programs for the inclusion of children with special abilities in the city of Loja.

In order to contribute to the education of preschool and school children of the city of Loja, it was decided to create the Educational Center “San Gerardo” in 1994, with a philosophical principle of integration and pedagogical alternatives to assist the development of learners, structuring cognitive advice, stimulating creativity, development of positive attitudes toward nature and human beings, promoting group participation, solidarity by various techniques; but especially ensuring the child’s growth and development in an environment of security, freedom and friendship as essential conditions for its realization as a human being.

In the new curriculum reform, education generally has more freedom, you can work actively and creatively allowing a more critical and spontaneous attitude of children. If we analyze the Montessori method, we realize that this is not as new as it seems; also the child’s needs have not changed their base; as love, respect, time is all you need regardless of race, sex, language or religion.

Our children are guided in a free and democratic manner; that is, they have the right to debate and discuss negative attitudes in groups with their teachers. Small working groups: the importance of the groups not being numerous, aims to preserve harmony and balance thereof, since sharing projects, workshops, green classes (ecological) and free game develops in children a broad social sense.

The development of these children follows a path that is sometimes uncomfortable for parents, because their children ask questions and criticize issues that the center allows and encourages, but sometimes they are misunderstood by adults with closed and submissive criteria.

If we project the future, this change in childhood is vital, as critical children and with self-esteem of their own values will achieve the changes that society needs.

To this end, it has been acquired a vast extension of nine and a half hectares land in the beautiful area of New Pompeii – “El Capulí” neighborhood, surrounded by a cozy and own landscape for our students to fully enjoy nature and tranquility. It is in this place where it will continue teaching all small and young Gerardines.

It is a modern, functional infrastructure, and above all adjusted and designed  for our preschool, school and young children, to develop in comfort and technology that modern pedagogy demands, while children are carefully monitored in our central building.

Our institution works double day schedule. In the morning the core subjects are taught: Language, Mathematics, Social Studies, Social Science, English, German and Ecology. In the afternoon: Chess, football, Food, Dance, Music, Basketball, Crafts, Addressed tasks.

We have a teaching staff integrated by national and foreign professionals in the different areas both formal and technical. They receive training and ongoing advice to the “Montessori methodology”. Plans of action to guide educational processes and improve relations between teachers, parents and students are developed.
