EUREKA KIDS

EUREKA KID’S is a recreational Olympiad, which is held for the fourth consecutive year and consists of the exhibition of Natural Science experiments; in which students from different public and private educational establishments from the South of Ecuador and the North of Peru participate.

Levels established for the development of the event:

• The participants are only and exclusively those students belonging to the Educational Institutions of Southern Ecuador and Northern Peru.
• The schools belonging to the coastal system must register their students at the level before the approved basic year. That is, the 8th Year students of Basic General Education, will participate with the 7th Year students of Basic General Education belonging to the Sierra system and thus correspondingly.

• The Responsible Teachers must present themselves at the facilities of the Unidad Educativa Particular “San Gerardo”, on the day of the exhibition of the event, Thursday, May 18, 2018; being essential the presence of the participating groups at least one hour before the start of the event (since the assembly of each experiment is required and the installation of the materials to be used for this assembly), to register each of the participants of your institution, carrying the documentation that accredits them as representative of the educational entity; as well as the corresponding identifications (identity card or student card) of the participants who will present the project; it will also include a letter signed by the secretary of the Educational Institution, which will certify the current year of study of enrolled students.

REGULATIONS TO BE APPLIED

It is required that the experiment to be presented comply with the following regulations:

  • Each participating institution will conduct an experiment in which a theme of the current curriculum for each level will apply.
  • The number of participants for each level will be from 1 to 3 students per Educational Institution.
  • In the presentation of the final report for EUREKA KID’S must include the enabling documents such as: folder where the cover is written (name of the Educational Unit, theme of the experiment, name of the student exhibitor, level or year of basic, advisor or responsible teacher) , then the report of the practice must be stated, which must be stated on A4 size sheets of paper, line spacing 2, Times New Roman 12, the pages must be numbered.
  • The report of EUREKA KID’S practices must contain: the title, introduction, objectives, materials, substances, assembly outline, procedure, conclusions (in accordance with the objectives) recommendations and finally must include the bibliography. It is important to finally record the annexes (they include photographs where the participant is observed performing the experiments in each of its stages).
  • The works must be exhibited by the student (s) that make up the registered exhibiting team, always supported by the responsible teacher when the occasion merits. However, the participation of the students during the observation of the qualifying jury will be exclusive of the students. The contribution by the teacher will not be allowed.
  • In case of a tie, the Qualifying Jury must make a decision based on the development of the process required by each participating experiment.
  • The first three places will be awarded with diplomas of honor and corresponding medals for each place.

NOTE. The folders of the reports of the experiments will be received from March 26 to April 30, 2018, for review, for which two printed copies must be submitted.
It should be noted that the Unidad Educativa Particular “San Gerardo” in the development of the event will only participate as the host, but will not compete in any category.

  • The students of our institution who obtain the three highest scores will be recognized with gold, silver and bronze medals.
  • To achieve the award the gerardine academic excellence will be taken into account only the scores greater than 75% of the total score of the individual events per event, these results will be used to be accumulated to the general sum, it should be emphasized the award for Academic Excellence Gerardina , it will be granted to the institution that reaches 90% of the total sum of all events, otherwise it will be declared void.
  • Medals for each level (gold, silver, and bronze respectively) will be awarded to the winners with their respective diplomas and honorable mentions.
  • The award ceremony will be held at the Closing Program on Friday, May 18 at the National Theater Benjamín Carrión at 12:30.

EUREKA

EUREKA is consolidated as an event of a scientific nature, far from constituting a strictly curricular competence, it seeks to promote the development of skills, ensuring that students have fun and gain experience to participate later in national and international events.

REGULATIONS TO BE APPLIED

It is required that the experiment to be presented comply with the following regulations:

  • In the presentation of the final report for Eureka, it is required: field notebook, photographs, drawings, videos and master book to corroborate, the beginning and end of the investigative and experimental work. They must also include the enabling documents such as folder where the title is entered (name of the Educational Unit, the theme of the experiment, name of the student exhibitor, level or year of basic, advisor or responsible teacher). then, the report of the practice should be recorded in a ringed file that should consist of the report with cover, contents index, research topic, general objective, specific objectives, justification, theoretical framework, methodology used in the experimental practice, assembly of the experimental practice, procedure, conclusions, recommendations, annexes (where you should include: photos of the investigative process from the beginning of the experimental practice until the end of it), at the end you must submit the scanned forms with the data of the experimental practice attached to the annexes, which will corroborate the investigative process of each participating institution.
  • The ringed document will have to be presented on A4 paper sheets, line spacing 2, font Times New Roman 12, the pages must be numbered. In addition to the original ringing will have to attach two ringed copies and another document presented on CD, it is necessary to present the notebook where the data collected throughout the investigative process is included.
  • The work of the EUREKA event must be exhibited by the students that make up the exhibiting team, always supported by the responsible teacher when the occasion merits. However, the participation of the students during the observation of the qualifying jury will be exclusive of the students. The contribution by the teacher will not be allowed.
  • It will be declared the winner of the Olympics of each level to the participants who have obtained the highest score, which is located on the 75 points.
  • If no participant exceeds the minimum score established (75 points), the contest will be declared void.
  • In case of a tie, the Qualifying Jury must make a decision based on the development of the process required by each participating experiment.
  • The first three places will be awarded diplomas of honor and corresponding medals for each place.

NOTE. The projects will be received from March 26 to April 30, 2018, for review, for which two printed and ringed copies and two recorded CDs must be delivered. The information is required to comply with the APA Sixth Edition regulation.

OLIQUIM

Gerardine Chemistry Olympiad (OLIQUIM SG) arises as a proposal of the Bioleage 2015 event, and since then it is organized annually by the Unidad Educativa Particular “San Gerardo”, in this event students from various levels of the different public educational establishments participate. South of Ecuador and North of Peru.
OLIQUIM aims to stimulate the intellect and promote the interest in Chemistry as an experimental science in high school students.

TERMS OF THE OLIQUIM 2018 COMPETITION

1. THEME AND TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

1.1. CONTENTS:

The contents to be evaluated are according to the level at which the student has enrolled.

The tests consist of 20 questions related to the following themes:

• First Level: The atom, Atomic-molecular theory, Periodic table, The chemical bond, Formation of chemical compounds, Chemical reactions and their equations, Chemistry of dissolutions and dispersed systems.

• Second Level: Chemical reactions and their equations, aqueous solutions and their reactions, solutions, gases, properties, laws, kinetics and chemical equilibrium, acids and bases.

• Third Level: Carbon, Open Chain Hydrocarbons, Closed Chain Hydrocarbons, Oxygenated Compounds, Nitrogen Compounds, and of Biological Interest, Petroleum Chemistry.

1.2. REGISTRATION IN THE OLYMPICS:

Participation in the Olympics is not particular, but institutional. For this reason, it is the institutions that must register according to the procedure indicated below:

1.3. RULES OF OLYMPICS

  • Of the participantsThe participants are only and exclusively those students belonging to the Educational Institutions of the South of Ecuador and the North of Peru who have made the corresponding registration, through the indicated procedure.
    • From the representative of the educational institution

Each educational institution must appoint a delegate teacher, which will have the following functions:

 Act as the link between the participating institution and OLIQUIM SG.
 Provide adequate and timely information to the authorities, students, and parents on the provisions for participation in the Olympics.
 Enroll the students of your institution to participate in the Olympics, on the website www.sangerardo.edu.ec, filling each of the forms correctly.
 It must be presented to the facilities of the “San Gerardo” Individual Educational Unit, the day the test is given, one hour before its start, to register the participants carrying the documentation that accredits them as representative of the institution, as well as the identifications of the participants who will take the test and a letter from the institution’s secretariat that certifies the years in which the enrolled students are enrolled.

  • Of the levels and categories

o OLIQUIM SG presents the modality of individual participation, this means that the competition is not carried out by teams, but each registered student will take the test.
o The established levels are as indicated in the following table:

o The schools belonging to the Costa Regime must register their students at the level prior to the year of high school in Ecuador or the high school degree approved in Peru. In other words, the second year students will participate in the first year students belonging to the Sierra regime and thus correspondingly.

  • From the competition

o The SG Chemical Olympics will consist of a single test, which will be given on the day established by the Directors.
o The representative of each Educational Institution will register the students to participate in the event, according to the indicated procedure.
o Only students from educational institutions who have made the correct registration will be able to participate.

  • From the qualifying committee

o The Qualifying Committee will be made up of members from outside the Unidad Educativa Particular “San Gerardo”, preferably teachers from Universities and / or non-participating Educational Institutions and will be in charge of the qualification of the tests.
o In addition, the Qualifying Committee will be responsible for issuing the results according to the corresponding participation parameters.
o If deemed necessary, the Qualifying Committee may request the collaboration of qualified persons belonging to the Organizing Institution to expedite the qualification process.

  • Of the exams and their qualification

o The test will consist of 20 multiple-choice questions for each of the three levels and with different degrees of complexity.
o Each question will have a value of 4 points.
o The duration of the tests is 90 minutes.
o The criteria for qualifying the tests are the following:

– If the answer to a multiple-choice question is correct, 4 points will be awarded to the test score.
– If the answer to a multiple choice question is incorrect, 2 points will be deducted from the test score.
– If a multiple-choice question is not answered, no score will be awarded or removed from the test score.
– The participants who have obtained the highest score on the 7.5 points will be declared the winner of the Olympics of each level. If no participant exceeds the minimum score established (7.5 points), the contest will be declared void.
– In the event of a tie, the Qualifying Committee will apply the tie-breaking test to the students involved.

  • Award for Academic Excellence

o The Unidad Educativa Particular “San Gerardo” will participate in all BIOLEAGE events, but will not enter the contest.
o The students of our institution who obtain the three highest scores will be recognized with gold, silver and bronze medals.
o In order to achieve the Gerardine academic excellence award, only scores greater than 75% of the total score of the individual events will be taken into account, these results will be used to be accumulated to the general sum. The Excellence Award will be awarded to the institution that reaches 90% of the total sum of all events, otherwise, it will be declared void.
o Medals will be awarded for each level (gold, silver, and bronze respectively) to the winners with their respective diplomas and prizes.
o The award will be made in the Closing Program.

MENTELOCUENTE

The contest will be held on May 17 and 18 at the Teatro de la Casa de la Cultura (10 de Agosto between Bolívar and Bernardo Valdivieso). The MENTELOCUENTE event consists of three stages: ORATORY, DEBATE, AND IMPROVISATION.

ORATORY

Thursday, May 17, 2018, from 09h30.

The theme will be: “LIFE AND WORK OF A HIGHLIGHTED PERSON IN ANY SCOPE OF CULTURE”.

Scenic development: Body expression and eye contact. 6 pts
Vocalization 2 pts
Modulation of the voice: volume, rhythm and diction. 4 pts
Content of the Discourse: the speech must contain a brief biography of the teacher to be presented and his most relevant contributions. 8 pts

ORATORY BASES:

  • Each intervention will have a minimum duration of 5 minutes and a maximum duration of 7 minutes.
  • The order of intervention of the students will be in the same as the registration.
  • The following will be taken into account: corporal expression, diction, intonation and way of addressing the public.
  • The participant must explain the reasons why the character to be exhibited stands out in his cultural field.
  • It must be taken into account that the honored characters will be invited to the event, so the excellent participation of the students is suggested.
  • In case of a tie, the two participants will be rewarded.

DEBATE

The theme will be: “THE WOMAN IS THE OWNER OF HER BODY AND IN ABSOLUTE FREEDOM TO EXECUTE ABORTION”

BASES OF DEBATE:

  • The intervention time of each student will be of maximum 5 minutes.
  • The order of intervention of the students will be in the same as the registration.
  • Each student will have a counter space of 2 minutes maximum.
  • Once the interventions are over, there will be questions from the attendees and from the members of the Qualifying Jury.
  • The participation must be lucid, demonstrating at all times, their level of eloquence and argumentation, both in the presentation of his speech and in the counter-replies.
  • Finally, the participant must take a position in the debate, that is, he must choose whether he is in favor or against the postulated topic.

PENALTY FOR THE DEBATE

The student who interrupts the use of the word of his partner will be reprimanded with 3 points in the total of his intervention.

You can not proffer or mutter offenses or responses that are offensive or scathing; even losing his composure in the counter-reply will be cause for reprimand, that is, 3 points will be subtracted.

IMPROVISATION

The theme will be: “THE IMPORTANCE OF LOYALTY, RESPECT, SINCERITY, HONESTY, HUMILITY, PATRIOTISM, EMPATHY, TOLERANCE, SELF-SUFFICIENCY, SOLIDARITY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE”

IMPROVISATION BASES:

  • The order of intervention of the students will be in the same of the registration.
  • The theme of improvisation will be drawn, randomly at that moment.
  • The duration of the intervention will be a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes.
  • In case of a tie, a new topic will be delivered under the same system.
  • Each participant will have a time of 10 minutes to prepare the speech before their participation.

PENALTY FOR IMPROVISATION

The student may exceed the established time (5 minutes) in a maximum of 30 seconds. One minute before the end and when the time is over, a bell will sound. The student who does not meet the minimum or maximum intervention time will be reprimanded with the 2 points.

IMPORTANT:

  • The Unidad Educativa Particular “San Gerardo” will designate a representative of the institution to participate in the event, which will not be part of the contest.
  • The participant must present their student card and attend punctually with the uniform of the institution they represent.
  • The contest is for high school students in the case of Ecuador, and third, fourth and fifth grade in the case of Peru.
  • It is suggested that the president of the student government represent your institution.
  • Failure to comply with the aforementioned, the organizers may disqualify the participating school immediately.
  • Each educational institution may enroll a student.
  • You can not designate different students for each event, each student must pass the three phases (oratory, debate, improvisation).
  • Participants must be legally enrolled in the institution they will represent.
  • The contest is aimed at high school students in the case of Ecuador and fifth grade in the case of Peru.
  • It is suggested that the president of the student government represent your institution, however, any student who complies with the aforementioned profile may be enrolled.
  • Failure to comply with the provisions of this instruction manual, the organizers may disqualify the participating school immediately.

JURY QUALIFIER:

The qualifying jury (independent of the organizing institution) will be made up of prominent figures from our city, who will designate a winner considering the points above. The result of the jury will be unappealable.

PRIZE:

  • The Unidad Educativa Particular “San Gerardo” will issue a certificate of participation to all the contestants.
  • The winners of MENTELOCUENTE will receive:
    • First place: Arupo Blanco

Social networks have found their way into our offices, living rooms, in the dining rooms of our homes; they have even become our preferred way of meeting people to establish intimate relationships.

The HOW KNOWLEDGEABLE YOU ARE Event arises as a novel proposal that has been carried out internally for two years, and this time, within the BIOLEAGE 2018 event, it is intended to be carried out in an intercollegiate way, in which students of various levels of the different Public and private educational establishments in Southern Ecuador and Northern Peru.

HOW KNOWLEDGEABLE YOU ARE aims to stimulate the intellect and strengthen the interest of the baccalaureate students for the knowledge of the general culture and English in particular.

Through this type of events, it is intended that, with the help of the teachers, students strengthen their knowledge of general culture and English, which are one of the bases of the exams FCE, TOEFL and IELST, required by universities of great prestige around the world for students from non-English speaking countries.

General objective:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of general culture in high school students from the implementation of language skills acquired in the English language as a fundamental means of communication.

Specific Objectives:

  • Encourage interest in the general culture in high school students.
  • Identify the level of linguistic competence in the English language.

Of the competition.

  • The Unidad Educativa Particular “San Gerardo”  reserves the right to participate with more than one team, in case there is an odd number of participating institutions.
  • The questions of the competition will be of general knowledge. The categories and topics will be sent in advance to the participating institutions.
  • There will be a panel that contains all the questions, divided into categories and with scores of 10 to 50 points. The categories and questions already answered will be marked.
  • There will be a table arranged with 4 buttons and spotlights, one for each participating group.
  • The jury will open the group faster by pressing the button to answer the question. If it is answered correctly, it will be assigned the partial or total score of the question. And the group will have the right to choose the next category and question.
  •  After having been given the right to respond, the group will have 5 seconds to answer the question, otherwise, the question will be eliminated.
  • The eliminatory will be made in rounds of 4 teams assigned by draw on the day of the event, advancing to the next round the group that scores the most.
  • From each group, the participants with the highest score will pass to a final round to determine first and second place according to the score.
  • The first question, of any category and with a score of 10, will be chosen by the presenter.
  • For each question, any group can respond.
  • If a question is not answered by any of the groups or is answered incorrectly, it will be eliminated. The presenter will choose the following question for 10 points.
  • For the answers to the low-scoring questions, students should give a complete prayer response (eg What is the name of the current president of Ecuador? The name of the current president of Ecuador is Lenin Moreno.) Otherwise, the answer will only have a value below your score, at the discretion of the jury.
From the qualifying committee:
  • The Qualifying Committee will be made up of three members from outside the Unidad Educativa Particular “San Gerardo”, preferably teachers from Universities and/or non-participating Educational Institutions.
  • The three juries will share the roles to: qualify the participation of each student, check that the contents of the answers are correct, and control the time. These roles will be rotated among the three after each round.
  • After 5 seconds have elapsed, if a student has not responded, the jury in charge of the time will stop it with the word THANK YOU and the question will be eliminated.

  • The Committee will be responsible for issuing the results.

  • The first and second place will be awarded.

INTRODUCTION:
Our institution, in an effort to consolidate the knowledge acquired in the classrooms, and to socialize through a healthy environment of competence, proposes the Gerardine Olympics of Recreational Physics, where the interest of our young people is sought by the study of Physics, propose the teaching of this science based on theory and practice that allow finding answers to the phenomena that surround us, detect outstanding students in the area, providing development opportunities and create an environment of integration among teachers of the Region, are some of the objectives of this proposal.

Being the Unidad Educativa Particular “San Gerardo” recognized for the brilliant organization of academic events, with the Olympics FIROG proposes to discover and empower the talents of our city to represent us in national and international instances, fostering their research spirit and love for the sciences.

FIROG (Gerardine Olympics Recreational Physics), is an Olympiad of recreational physics in which students of Baccalaureate for Ecuador and 5th. Secondary Education Degree Peru in two categories: a theoretical test combined with practical exercises and an application experiment.

  • In the experiment, the following will be qualified:

  • Each Institution may participate with a student as a minimum, and a maximum of 3 students per category.
  • It will be awarded medal to the three best jobs by category

Bases of the competition

On Thursday, May 19 they participate in two categories, students of Middle and Higher Education for Ecuador and 4th. Degree in Primary Education up to 3rd. Secondary Degree for Peru, with a theme of each student.
  • Title of the Mathematical Drawing.
  • Free technique
  • The drawing will be made in the attached template.
  • Fill in all the data of the template.
  • It will admit 1 drawings maximum per student.
  • The drawings must be unpublished.
  • Drawings that have been awarded in other contests or are currently participating in other similar events will not be accepted.
  • The participants will have three hours to make their mathematical drawing.

Parameters

  • Minimum score to obtain: This must be the equivalent of 75% of the final grade.
  • Of the award: gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded in the individual participation. In addition, diplomas will be awarded mention of honor and participation.
  • From the award program: the award will be held on May 19 in a special closing program.

Registration.

  • Participation in the Olympics is not particular, but institutional. For this reason, it is the institutions that must register according to the procedure indicated below:

ARTISTIC DRAWING

Event Name “DREAMS”

BACKGROUND.

“Only great dreams inspire, reasonable dreams do not inspire anyone. Throw your imagination, launch your heart and have a strategy, and paint. Act in small little by little and each brushstroke takes you to your dream. The result is that little by little you will become who you really want and you will fulfill your dream “.

General objective.

Raising awareness among our children and young people that when our dreams have been fulfilled is when we will understand the richness of our imagination and the poverty of reality.

Specific objective.

The goal is to learn the rules like a professional so you can break them as an artist.

Category description.

Regulation.

  • The maximum number of participants per level is two students.
  • Students will make their paintings during the event in the presence of the jury and may use a photography guide for the development of the same.
  • The formats of the paintings must be in the size of A.2 cardboard that will be provided by the host institution (San Gerardo).
  • The materials you can use and bring are detailed below, we emphasize that each participating student must bring their own material.

  • On the back of the cards where they will capture their drawings, they must include the following information, which will be filled out by the organizers.

  • Each participant must wear the uniform of the institution they represent, in the company of the responsible teacher.

THEME: DREAMS

The participants must be subject only and exclusively to the subject in question.

NOTE: The subject refers to Dreams (The human being is a dreamer par excellence).

The competition will start from 09h00 am to 12h00 Meridian o’clock, participating students must attend 30 minutes before the start time to proceed to place the identification with their personal data; We emphasize that the established schedule will be developed with due punctuality both for the start and for the end of the contest. Students must complete their work 5 minutes before the final scheduled time for the delivery of said works to the jury, they will proceed with the respective qualification.

Parameters

The qualifying jury is governed by the following table, which contains the percentages according to the parameters to be qualified.

Students will be awarded as long as they have reached a minimum of 75% in their jobs.

Jury

The jury will be made up of well-known local painters, who will be from the beginning to the end of the event, will be strategically located so that they can qualify the points above. The result of the jury will be unappealable the same ones that will qualify creativity, originality and the content of the subject in mention. The following table details each parameter and its respective score that will be graded for each of the drawings made by the participants.

Resolved from the Competition.

Once the competition is over, the jury will proceed to the respective qualification, and the results obtained will be automatically displayed in the place where the event was held. The winning students of the third, second and first place are cordially invited to the awards ceremony that will be held on May 19, 2017, starting at 2:30 pm at the Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana “Segundo Cueva Celi”, located on the streets ( Bernardo Valdivieso between Rocafuerte and August 10).

Awards

Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded in the individual participation and diplomas will also be awarded with mention of honor and participation.

Observations.

The participant must be accompanied by a delegation (10 properly uniformed students) of the educational establishment he represents, which must maintain appropriate conduct before, during and after the event.
